Our study investigates how long-term soil salinization influences intrinsic water-use efficiency (iWUE) and its nutrient drivers in the desert shrub Haloxylon ammodendron. Using a natural salinity gradient (1.8–31.1 g kg⁻¹) across 39 sites along a 454 km desert highway shelterbelt in the Taklamakan Desert, we measured leaf δ¹³C-derived iWUE, leaf elemental stoichiometry (C, N, P, Na, K, Ca, Mg), and soil nutrient availability (available N, available P, soil Ca²⁺,Mg²⁺,Na⁺ and K⁺). The dataset enables evaluation of how chronic salinization regulates iWUE and its key nutrient drivers in arid ecosystems.
