LINGUOCULTURAL ANALYSIS OF PROVERBS IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK LANGUAGES

This article examines the linguocultural features of proverbs in English and Uzbek languages. Proverbs are one of the most important units of folk wisdom, reflecting the worldview, historical experience, moral values, traditions, social relations, and cultural identity of a nation. In both English and Uzbek languages, proverbs serve not only as expressive linguistic units but also as cultural codes that preserve collective knowledge and transmit it from generation to generation. The main aim of the article is to analyze similarities and differences between English and Uzbek proverbs from a linguocultural point of view. The study focuses on semantic, cultural, thematic, and pragmatic features of selected proverbs. The research is based on comparative, descriptive, semantic, and linguocultural methods. The findings show that English and Uzbek proverbs have many universal themes, such as labor, wisdom, friendship, family, honesty, patience, education, and human behavior. At the same time, they differ in imagery, cultural symbols, national mentality, and social values. English proverbs often reflect individual responsibility, practical thinking, time management, and personal experience, while Uzbek proverbs strongly emphasize respect for elders, family unity, hospitality, community, morality, and social harmony. The article concludes that the comparative study of proverbs helps to understand not only language structure but also the cultural worldview of English and Uzbek speakers.
