Application of marine picoalga Picochlorum maculatum MACC3 biomass for enhanced growth, gut health and immunity in Silverado Guppy, Poecilia reticulata

This study investigated the potential benefits of dietary supplementation of chitosan flocculated biomass of marine microalga Picochlorum maculatum MACC3 on growth, digestive performance, gut microbiome composition, and immunity of juvenile Silverado guppies (Poecilia reticulata).The NGS-based gut microbiome analysis revealed a greater abundance of favorable bacterial taxa. The supplementation of chitosan-flocculated P. maculatum MACC3 positively modulated the gut microbiome structure of Silverado guppies, which resulted in improved growth, digestive enzyme activities and immune responses of the guppies.
