Rhodotorula toruloides NP11 Genome sequencing and assembly

Genome sequence of Rhodosporidium toruloides provided genetic knowledge base for understanding the microbial oleaginicity and engineering this yeast to produce microbial oils. Rhodosporidium toruloides (formerly known as Rhodotorula glutinis or Rhodotorula gracilis), a nonpathogenic and pink-colored basidiomycetous fungus, can accumulate lipids over 70% of its dry cell weight (DCW). This yeast was often used for transformation of renewable resources to microbial oils, alternative oil sources for foods, animal feeds, and feedstocks of chemicals and biofuels.
