Control of 1D Wave versus 2D Honeycomb Co^IIICd^IICu^I Heterotrimetallic Architectures by Δ_L−Λ_L Diastereoisomerism of l-Cysteinatocobalt(III) Building Units

The reactions of the ΔL and ΛL isomers of [Co(l-Hcys-N,S)(en)2]2+ (l-H2cys = l-cysteine) with CuCl in aqueous HCl gave CoIIICuI dinuclear complexes with the same S-bridged structures, ΔL-1 and ΛL-1. When ΔL-1 was treated with CdCl2 in water, a 1D wavelike (CoIII2CdIICuI)n polymeric complex (2) was produced. On the other hand, similar treatment of ΛL-1 led to the formation of a 2D honeycomb-like (CoIII3CdII3CuI)n polymeric complex (3), supported by the presence of counter-monoanions.
