Data and analysis code for a relative soil condition index in plantain and banana farms in the Colombian Andes

This repository contains the data and R analysis code associated with the manuscript “Spatial heterogeneity and temporal variation in a relative soil condition index for tropical plantain and banana farms in the Colombian Andes.” Soil properties were measured in the same two plots on each of 36 plantain and banana farms across six municipalities in Quindío, Colombia, in April and July 2026 (144 plot-level observations). The dataset includes physical, chemical and culturable microbial properties used to assess spatial and temporal variation and to calculate a Relative Soil Condition Index (RSCI). The ZIP file contains the analytical dataset, the R script, analysis results and supplementary tables. It also includes a separate file of farm-level coordinates. The numeric IDs in the coordinate file have no verified correspondence with the farm IDs in the analytical dataset and should not be used to link the files. The RSCI is a comparative measure for the sampled farms and dates. Its scores depend on the specified calibration limits and should not be interpreted as agronomic sufficiency thresholds. The observational analysis does not estimate treatment effects or establish the cause of differences between sampling campaigns.
