Cross-sectional and longitudinal study of microbiota transformation from 2 days to 18 years of age using 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing.

The oral microbiota was longitudinally studied in children and young adults from 2 days (n=206) to 5 years of age and in young adults (n=175). We collected saliva swabs at 2 days, 3 and 18 months, and 3 and 5 years of age and saliva from the young adults. None of the subjects had antibiotic intake within 3 months before sampling, and 71 children participated at all occasions. The v3-v4 region of the 16S RNA gene was sequenced (a total of 924 samples). In the project there is also samples from human milk and faeces.
