BG689 (ζY83C mazF+) and BG1243 (ζY83C ΔmazF) cells were grown in MMS7 to ∼5×107 cell ml−1. Then 0.5% Xyla or 2x-MIC Ampb or both was added and the culture was incubated for 120 min.
