SEMANTIC SPECIALISATION IN ENGLISH VEGETABLE- AND DENDRONYM-BASED SLANG: A COMPARATIVE DISTRIBUTIONAL STUDY

Abstract. This study compares 159 vegetable-and-herb records with 63 dendronym records in an author-compiled historical slang card index. Controlled recoding identifies shared anthropocentric tendencies but different secondary specialisations: vegetable names favour money, place and somatic reference, whereas dendronyms show stronger technical-object and action/state profiles. The results distinguish repertoire size from present-day frequency.
