Strategy card games could be considered as one of the factors that may have aneffect to motivate students to study and/or learn a target language like the English language.Trading card games as a type of tactical card game, have some significant relationship withEnglish language in many aspects. This study aimed to investigate the participant students’level of motivation in learning English and to find out whether the students were intregrativelyor instrumentally motivated to learn English. The participants consisted of 34 trading cardgames players in Phetchaburi city who were also studying English. Their ages were betweentwelve to eighteen years old. To fulfill the study’s objectives, the research instrument wasadapted and employed based on the Attitude/Motivation Test Battery (AMTB). To gather datafrom the participants, the information was collected through a questionnaire which then wasstatistically analyzed. The findings revealed that the participants had a ‘high’ level of learningEnglish motivation and there was no statistical difference between the two types of motivation.The results revealed some interesting points from the participants about learning English andplaying trading card games. In order to increase the chance to improve student motivation inlearning English, this study also provides implications for future researchers who carry outrelated studies with regards to learning English motivation and trading card games.
