The interviews of Unveiling meanings of non-standard Yemeni Arabic

Semi-structured interviews with 16 participants who speak the Yemeni dialect were recorded for the purpose of investigating the types and functions of the implicatures. All the interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed, translated and interpreted. The collected data was analyzed qualitatively as well as quantitatively. Statistics were used to show the extent to which Gricean four maxims of cooperative principle were flouted. The researchers obtained ethical approval for this study from the Department of English at Hajjah University of Yemen, dated in 15/6/2023. Consent from the participants, who are the researchers' colleagues, friends, and acquaintances, was obtained to take part in the study. Oral consent was obtained from the participants due to logistical constraints as the participants who are illiterate may not be able to read or sign written consent forms, and the Department of English staff approved this. The Head of the English Department was provided with a list of the participants' names. He ensured that the participants had consented to their voluntary participation as he had attended the interviews. Participants were fully informed about the study's purpose, and their right to withdraw at any time without penalty.
