High-throughput sequencing was used to characterise the eukaryotic communities in three different mine water samples of South Africa with aim to design effective strategies for the bioremediation of polluted aquatic ecosystems. The study revealed a high genetic diversity of unicellular eukaryotic communities in mine waters from different geographic locations and with varying physicochemical parameters.
