Background: Innovative behaviors leading to outcomes of productivity are of interest among scholars and practitioners. Along with this thinking, the current study expanded knowledge and presents practical insights into dynamics supportive of job crafting, autonomous functioning, and work engagement. The purpose of this study was to investigate to what extent, if any, autonomous functioning mediated the correlation between job crafting and work engagement among human resource professionals. Method: This study was a quantitative, nonexperimental, correlational investigation. Also, the 15-item job crafting questionnaire, the 15-item index of autonomous functioning, and the 9-item work and well-being survey were the instruments used in this study. Further, SPSS and the PROCESS addon were the programs used for statistical analysis. Results: Statistical analysis determined autonomous functioning did not statistically mediate the correlation between job crafting and work engagement within the context of this study. Conclusion: Insights are given aligning with scholarly and practical outcomes associated with this research.
