strain US193 was a polyextremophilic bacterium newly isolated from a compost in Sfax, Tunisia. it was found to be alkaliphilic, thrmophilic and halotolerant at a time and was identified as Bacillus halodurans strain US193. it produced a number of proteases and amylases with interesting characteristics making them very good candidates for many industrial applications at harsh conditions. many of them were recently cloned, sequenced and expressed in our laboratory. however, we have found a new sequence of a cyclodextrine glycosyl transferase that did not present any homology with the other sequences available in genbank database, ever with the most closely related bacterium: Bacillus halodurans C-125. for that we have been interested in the discovery of the genome of strain US193 and then we have tried to sequence it using the Miseq sequencing system. the data were assembled in scaffolds by the Illumina basespace system.
