In the mammalian cortex and hippocampus, GABAergic inhibition is mediated by a diverse group of local interneurons. Here, we used mutant mice that carry a Cre-inducible form of RiboTag and drug-regulated Cre, with expression is restricted to parvalbumin-positive (PV) interneurons. This model allows us to survey the mRNA profiles of PV neurons in intact cortical and hippocampal circuits following manipulation of activity with seizure-inducing drugs (pentylenetetrazol, PTZ). RNA samples isolated from PV cells of control mice and animals treated with PTZ, were sequenced on the Illumina Hiseq platform.
