Metagenomics allows us to acquire the potential resources from both cultured and uncultured microorganisms in the environment. ANAMMOX, uncultured bacteria, played a crucial role in the removal of ammonia nitrogen in wastewater, which contains considerable organic compounds (e.g., humic substances) that may potentially impact on activity and community dynamics of ANAMMOX bacteria. Thus, the knowledge gained in this study highlights an important role of structural and metabolic potential of ANAMMOX systems under humic substances conditions.
