521 Sussex - Integrated Project Work (2017)
收藏资源简介:
Located in the heart of downtown Ottawa within the historic Byward Market, 521 Sussex Drive is surrounded by a shopping and business district, which provides a sense of community. It is also similar architecturally to the other buildings along Sussex Drive which culturally connects the site to its immediate surroundings. 521 Sussex Drive was built in the Italianate style that was popular in North America during the mid to late 19th century, especially for commercial buildings. The main features are the repeated round- headed, label-surrounded arches on the front (South-West) façade of the second floor, as well as the ornamented cornice, and the engaged columns between the storefronts. There are beautiful examples of masonry and brickwork, with the keystone of the arches adding a clean addition to the usually ornamented style. This is the Integrated Project Dossier compiled by a group of undergraduate students of the Architectural Conservation and Sustainability Program (Engineers and architects) at Carleton University for the CIVE3207 (ARCN4100) Historic Site Recording and Assessment course in 2017
