Mycoplasma gallisepticum strain R. The strain has been extensively studied in regards of cyto-adherence and host invasion. Low passage number cultures are capable of invading cultured cells in ~20 minutes in model experiments, whereas high passage number cultures only attach to the host cells and lose the ability to invade them.
