Bacillus velezensis strain:Bac5 Genome sequencing

In this study, two Bacillus strains (B. velezensis Bac5 and B. subtilis Bac6) were isolated from mangrove sediments in Puerto Hualtaco, Huaquillas, Ecuador. These strains exhibit probiotic traits but also harbor antimicrobial resistance and virulence factor genes. Notably, even isolates from largely unimpacted environments can carry genes of potential concern, highlighting the importance of genomic surveillance when evaluating candidate probiotic strains. The objective of this work was to obtain their complete genome sequences and perform a detailed genomic characterization of both strains, which display antagonistic activity against Vibrio.
