Arecoline hydrobromide promotes the apoptosis of male germ cells

Arecoline hydrobromide has been demonstrated to regulate cellular survival. To investigate the effects of arecoline hydrobromide on male reproduction, male mice were treated with arecoline hydrobromide by gavage. Mouse experiments showed that the spermatozoa in the experimental groups were significantly reduced compared with that in the control group. The level of testosterone in the four week of intragastric administration experimental group were higher than those in the control group, but there was no significant change in the level of follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone in the control group and experimental group. Transcriptome analysis was used to analyze the significant difference of gene expression for arecoline hydrobromide treated mice.
