Digital Data from an Archaeological Evaluation at Orwell Logistics Park, Phase 3, Nacton, Suffolk 2022

This collection comprises images and GIS data from an archaeological evaluation carried out by Cotswold Archaeology at the Orwell Logistics Park, Nacton, Suffolk. The work took place in August 2022. Seven trenches were excavated with three revealing archaeological features.
Seven artefactually undated features were recorded; a ditch and six pits. The pits were similar in character, all included charcoal and sometimes heat-altered flints in their fills and often exhibited in-situ heat reddening of their base. A radiocarbon dating determination suggested that these features were Anglo-Saxon in date and may have functioned as charcoal clamps. Similar features have been recorded on other former heathland sites, both locally and further afield and where radiocarbon dates have been commissioned, they seem to cluster in the Anglo-Saxon period.
