Malaria Parasitaemia Among Orthopaedic Patients in a Nigerian Tertiary Hospital

This dataset contains anonymised clinical and demographic data from a descriptive cross-sectional study investigating the prevalence of malaria parasitaemia among orthopaedic patients attending the Orthopaedic Clinic of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria.Data were collected from 71 consecutively recruited, consenting orthopaedic outpatients using a structured interviewer-administered questionnaire, covering sociodemographic characteristics (age, sex, genotype), orthopaedic condition type (trauma-related or non-trauma-related), postoperative status, history of current or previous malaria-like symptoms, and antimalarial treatment history. Peripheral blood samples were examined microscopically using Giemsa-stained thick and thin films to detect and quantify malaria parasitaemia (parasites/µL).All direct identifiers (names, hospital numbers, exact dates) have been removed. The accompanying data dictionary describes each variable and its coding.
