WASWind (Sea Surface Wind derived from wave and anemometer measurements) provides a bias-corrected global ocean surface wind dataset. Its variables include 10-meter-height scalar, zonal and meridional winds, as well as zonal and meridional components of wind stress. WASWind is constructed using wind observation data from ICOADS (International Comprehensive Ocean-Atmosphere Data Set). It is widely recognized that ship-measured ocean surface winds exhibit spurious upward trends, which stem from the increasing mounting height of on-board anemometers. WASWind greatly reduces the spurious upward trend in wind speeds by applying height corrections for anemometer-measured wind data.
