Healthy River and Reef/ North Johnstone River Highway / Revegetation - Phase 2

The overall project of which this project is a part is to revegetate approximately 10000 trees across 4 hectares on the banks of the North Johnstone River at a visible location to enrich and extend remnant vegetation and increase community awareness of the need for, and practical methods of, riverine restoration to protect both the river and reef. The project will contribute to resilience to local climate change, to restoration of Indigenous cultural values and to restoration of terrestrial and aquatic corridors for threatened and endangered species including the Cassowary. It will also reduce impacts on downstream estuarine conservation zones and the Great Barrier Reef, identified as important objectives in the Johnstone Rivers Management Plan.
