Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica D. Don) is the most important forestry conifer in Japan. Genome sequencing of the species will accelerate not only breeding but also evolutionary studies to identify genes of interest. Unfortunately, the large genome size (about 11Gbp) and huge repetitive elements hindered the progress of the sequencing. Primary goal of the current project is to sequence and assemble the C. japonica genome at chromosomal level.
