资源简介:
The purpose of an Admission Register was to record basic details about children admitted to the school, and about their parents or guardians. The registers were also used to record the progress of the children through various classes and the date of their leaving the school. This series contains information pertaining to each pupil, including their date of admission, name, gender, date of birth and religious denomination; the name of their previous school and their date of leaving. The record also includes the name and residence of the child’s parents or guardians. The pupil's date of admission to each subsequent grade, date of leaving the school, and the name of any school, college or University entered, or any occupation entered into, on leaving school are also recorded. In the first volume of the series, which dates from the School’s co-educational period, girls’ and boys’ enrolments are recorded separately on facing pages, and numbered independently; boys’ enrolments in this volume are numbered 1-509, girls’ enrolments 1-408. The numbering of the boys’ enrolments was continued through subsequent volumes until entry number 5031 at the end of 1941. The volume now numbered AB5794 was originally used to record admissions to the Annexe operated by the Boys’ High School on the campus of the Technical College in Hunter Street, Newcastle, during the years 1932 and 1933, and was subsequently re-used as the Admission Register for the parent school during 1942 and 1943. The entries in the volume for the Annexe enrolments of 1932-1933 were numbered 1-223, and when this volume was re-used from 1942 onwards, the numbering was continued from 224, with this new numbering carried through subsequent volumes until at least number 2293, in January 1951. The last volume records admissions for the year 1975 in the re-established co-educational Newcastle High School, and lists boys and girls together with the numbering 24 through to 300.The first volume of the series (AB5792A) has been rebound, with no pages missing. The second surviving volume (5792B) is intact but poor condtion. The third surviving volume (AB5792) is incomplete, missing both covers, two leaves at the beginning (probably containing approximately 42 entries) and four leaves at the end (containing 99 entries). A note in the succeeding volume (AB5793) records some information about these missing pages: “1939 admissions begin on last page of old Register at No. 4269. Last number in old Register 4282”. Volume (5794A) has also been rebound with the original cover detached but present. The other surviving volumes of this series are intact, with minimal wear.
