An Intensive Archaeological and Architectural Survey of the Proposed S.C. 302 (Pine Log Road) Widening Project, Aiken County, South Carolina

"An intensive archaeological and architectural survey was conducted for the S.C. 302 road widening project in Aiken County, South Carolina. The purpose of this survey was to locate and identify any archaeological and/or historic sites which would be affected by the proposed federally assisted undertaking. Located sites were then to be assessed according to criteria for eligibility for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. This survey resulted in the identification of nine archaeological sites (38AK621, 38AK622, and 38AK624-38AK630) along with three archaeological and architectural sites (38AK623/4.021, 38AK631/005-2228, and 38AK632/4.020). One previously unidentified architectural site (005-2228) was represented by four historic buildings. In addition, two previously identified architectural sites (4.020 and 4.021) were revisited. Among the archaeological and architectural sites, only 38AK631/005-2228 was evaluated to be eligible for the National Register of Historic Places."
