The effect of doped cerium oxide on the magnetic properties and microstructure of 2:17 type SmCo magnets was studied. As cerium oxide increases from 0 wt.% to 3 wt.%, the coercivity of the magnet greatly increases from 22.22 kOe to over 29 kOe, an increase of over 30%. When the doping content is below 1 wt.%, the remaining time and square of the magnet remain almost unchanged. With the further increase of the doping amount, the residual amount and magnetic energy products decrease linearly. After cerium oxide, the oxide content in the magnet increases significantly, and Ce elements are uniformly distributed in the magnet. Through the observation of magnetic domains, it is found that doping cerium oxide can effectively improve the pinning field of the magnet, thereby greatly increasing the coercive force of the magnet.
