16S-V4 amplicon sequencing of the gut microbiota of Mexican pinnipeds

Through 16S rRNA gene deep-sequencing, we evaluated the effect of phylogeny on the composition and potential function of the gut microbiota in the four pinniped species inhabiting Mexico: the harbor seal (Phoca vitulina richardii), the northern elephant seal (Mirounga angustirostris), California sea lion (Zalophus californianus) and Guadalupe fur seal (Arctocephalus philippi townsendi).
