City of Mesa population figures come from the U.S. Census Bureau’s Population Estimates Program (PEP), released annually (as of July 1 each year). See <b><a href="https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/popest/data/tables.html?utm_campaign=20240516pio&utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery">Population and Housing Unit Estimates.</b></a> Arizona uses these PEP estimates for state revenue sharing under A.R.S. § 42-5033.01. This dataset is the official population base for all per-capita city metrics (e.g., crimes or traffic collisions per 1,000 residents). 2025–2040 population projections are provided by the Maricopa County Association of Governments (MAG) and were adopted June 2023.
