Women in Surfing: Convening via Creative Practice

This research found new practice-based ways of promoting women in surfing, where women have historically been discouraged and lacked visibility. The primary objective was centred on highlighting women’s visibility and perspectives through creative, collaborative and social practice. The documentation and translation of experiences through practice-based research offer affective and empathetic ways to encourage women, when combined with curation and participation in community events. The methodology draws upon autoethnography and sensory ethnography, alongside multiform creative inquiry. The final exhibition comprises five audiovisual works, along with the co-crafted surfboard and curated blue space.
