Census of Canada, 1871

This dataset was created by the Canadian Historical Mobility Project consisting of researchers from York University. A sample data file was created by extracting information from the 1871 Nominal Census on microfilm. This is a stratified sample of all households from the entire census. The population is stratified by province and, within provinces, between urban (defined as communities of 3,000 or more) and non-urban areas. So there are eight strata (four provinces by urban/non-urban).
