To test whether an ancestral whole-genome duplication (WGD) shaped the evolutionary fates of Begoniaceae, comparative RNA-seq dataset were generated for twelve Begonia species and the sister genus Hillebrandia. RNA-seq data was also used to improve existing genome annotation. After identification of duplicated genes expression divergence and functional enrichment was investigated.
