Recently, pure polycrystalline cubic ice (Ic) has been finally obtained exploiting the thermal decomposition of ice XVII, a novel chiral phase. This method allows for the production of large quantities of ice Ic, which turns out to be metastable up to about 220 K, when it irreversibly transforms into standard hexagonal ice.
