The microbial utilization of a mixture of carbon substrates at low concentrations in the environment is still unclear. The main question is if microorganisms focus on a single substrate or if they consume all substrates simultaneously. In the current study, we investigated the readiness of G. metallireducens to degrade organic substrates under conditions that are close to oligotrophic aquifers.
