The Groundwater Microbiome Catalogue

Although the terrestrial subsurface harbors a substantial fraction of Earth’s microbial biomass, the genomic diversity and metabolic potential of groundwater microbiomes remain largely unexplored. Here, we recovered 44,320 bacterial and archaeal genomes from both in-house (607 groundwater metagenomes) and publicly available metagenomic datasets, establishing the most comprehensive groundwater microbiota catalogue (GWMC) to date.
