This dataset is part of the Chinese Mammal Database. Chinese mammals feature high species diversity, abundant resources, pronounced endemism, and a large number of relict species. They boast extremely high ecological, scientific, economic and cultural values, and occupy a prominent position in the biodiversity landscape of China and the world at large. Following the compilation standards of *Fauna Sinica*, the Chinese Mammal Database has compiled a checklist of 600 mammal species, covering information including their taxonomic status, geographic distribution, photos and other relevant details. This resource provides a reliable reference for wildlife administrative departments at all levels, endangered wildlife import and export regulatory agencies, customs, public security organs, and industrial and commercial law enforcement departments to conduct wildlife conservation, management, law enforcement inspection, species identification and other related tasks.
