Iridium metal can be completely dissolved through a high temperature alkali fusion technique using Na2O2 and KCl with subsequent leaching in high concentration HCl. Dissolved iridium was separated from platinum contaminants. The article presents a novel method for the separation, purification, and recovery of iridium and platinum.
