资源简介:
The study conducted in Lohagara, a rural sub-district in Narail, Bangladesh, aimed to investigate the prevalence and associated factors of antenatal depression, a topic insufficiently explored in the country. Despite the global burden of depressive disorders, especially during pregnancy due to hormonal changes, limited research has been conducted in Bangladesh. The cross-sectional study, spanning June to November 2023, involved 350 pregnant subjects attending antenatal check-ups in government and private health facilities. Utilizing the Bengali-translated Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale and a structured questionnaire, the study found a noteworthy 39%-point prevalence of antenatal depression. Factors such as gestational week, unintended pregnancy, intimate partner violence, a history of previous diseases, and polygamous husbands were significantly associated with antenatal depression. The study emphasizes the need for heightened awareness among healthcare professionals, families, and policymakers in addressing antenatal depression, particularly focusing on issues like intimate partner violence and polygamy. Special attention and counseling are warranted for pregnant women with health problems or facing unexpected pregnancies in rural Narail.
