Complete genome sequence of a Staphylococcus aureus strain isolated as a contaminant of platelet concentrates (PC) at the National Health Service Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) in 2013 and designated as CI/BAC/25/13/W. Routine screening of PCs detected no contamination, but visual inspection revealed abnormal clots leading to the product recall, thus interdiction of the PC contaminated with Staphylococcus aureus was classified as a near-miss. Assessment of the genome sequence showed the presence of one chromosome (2,719,347 bp) and one plasmid (1,533 bp).
