Chronic allograft rejection is an insurmountable obstacle to long-term allograft survival. Donor-specific anti-HLA antibodies play an important role in causing chronic antibody-mediated allograft rejection. Historical and current evidence from the literature supports the hypothesis that HLA are unreliably immunogenic but definitively antigenic.
