Sediment Characterization for the Extended Duration Scientific Reservoir Response Test at Kuparuk State 7-11-12, Prudhoe Bay Unit, Alaska North Slope [Data Report]

This report supports the “Collaborative Gas Hydrate R&D Project in Alaska.” This research and development project, a collaboration led by the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security, the US Department of Energy, and the US Geological Survey and supported by the Arctic Slope Regional Corporation – Energy Services, investigated a gas hydrate-rich reservoir system at the Kuparuk State 7-11-12 site on the Alaskan North Slope (70.31717°N, 149.20026°W). Between 2022 and 2024, the collaboration accomplished a comprehensive coring, logging, monitoring and extended pressure-drawdown reservoir response program [For additional details, please see the Virtual Special Issue on "Recent Advances on Gas Hydrates Scientific Drilling in Alaska - An Update from Production Testing Operations during 2023/2024," published in 2026 in the journal Energy & Fuels]. Specifically, this dataset documents a comprehensive sediment property and lithologic description study. This dataset contains a zip file in which data are collected in folders for: Computed Tomography (CT) scans; grain density, grain size; mercury porosimetry; permeability, sediment plug images; thin section images and analysis; mineralogy via x-ray diffraction. Many of the measurement methods used follow the descriptions in Winters et al. [2011].
