The research site was located in Dianjiang County of Chongqing (29°38′-30°31′ N, 107°13′-107°40′ E), with a typical subtropical monsoon climate: it is a biodiversity hotspot area. The region has an altitude ranging from 320 to 1,183 m, a mean annual temperature of 17.1 ℃, and a mean annual precipitation of 1,200 mm. The forest types at the study site included coniferous forest, coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest, and broad-leaved forest. Fifty-four plots were chosen in study site.
