BETA-FOR_SP9_Lepidoptera_2022/2023

This dataset includes records of Lepidoptera species collected using light traps across the 234 BETA-FOR patches. One trap was installed on each patch, within a radius of max. 15 m from the patch center, where it was possible to hang the trap at a height of 1,50 - 1,70 m. 

Traps were active for one night during June and July, with additional sampling nights in May and August to compensate for poor sampling conditions.

Sampling was carried out in 2022 for 90 patches in the University Forest and 90 patches in the Bavarian Forest. In 2023, the 54 patches located in Saarland, Hunsrück, and Lübeck were sampled.

All collected specimens were identified and counted by taxonomist Julian Bittermann. The dataset includes all identified species, with a primary focus on macro-moths. Due to the high identification effort required, not all micro-moth species were fully documented; these cases are marked accordingly in the dataset.
