The link between agriculture and rural food security in the ecoregions of Mexico: path diagrams and underlying datasets.

This data release consists of three datasets that represent characteristics of the rural population in four major ecoregions of Mexico (Fig. 1; Table 1). The first data subset comprises nationwide georeferenced features of agricultural production units (Table 2); the second data subset addresses food security of the corresponding rural population (Table 3); the third data subset consists in representations (Tables 4-7 and Fig. 2a-d) on relationships between the two previous data subsets according to path analysis (according to structural equation models, see next section) between the two systems (the agricultural system and the food security system). The information on the two first data subsets is disaggregated (see next section for methodological details) at the rural neighbourhood level, the smallest spatial unit of the agricultural census in Mexico (“Área de control” in Spanish, see [1]).
