To explore how JA promotion of artemisinin production is dependent on light, we performed high-throughput Illumina sequencing to comprehensively characterize the transcriptome of A. annua, and reveal differential gene expression profiles between light conditions for 24 h (Light), dark conditions for 24 h (Dark), MeJA treatment for 4 h after 24-h light (Light-MeJA-4h) or dark (Dark-MeJA-4h) conditions pretreating, which would facilitate uncovering the molecular mechanisms underlying the artemisinin biosynthesis in A. annua.
