VPRS 14888 Registers of Licences and Leases

Under section 5 of the Forest Act 1958 (No. 6254) the Department was granted the exclusive control and management for the granting, issuing and enforcing of all leases, licences, permits or authorities under the Act or any corresponding previous enactment. Section 51 of the Act provides for the Governor in Council to grant leases of land in reserved forests. This may be for the purposes of the grazing of cattle, saw-milling or for any purpose and area for which a lease may be granted under Division nine of Part 1 of the Land Act 1958.Unit 1 provides at the back of the volume a register of sawmill leases issued under Section 24 of the Forests Act 1915. The register includes the name of the lessee and the date when the lease expires. It dates from 1921. The remainder of the register records licences. Sawmill licences include the name of the licensee and the licence number. The licences date from 1925. A new series of licences commenced in June 1935. Tramway licences include the name of the licensee and the licence number. The licences date from 1925. A new series of licences commenced in June 1935. The register provides information about the cancellation of licences. The register refers to relevant files in relation to tramway licences. The files belong to VPRS 11563 General Correspondence Files, Annual Single Number System.Unit 2 is a register of grazing licences. It dates from1921 and includes the name of the licensee, licence number, date issued, parish and purpose. The first few folios of this register were used to record information in relation to the functions of the Barmah State Forest Pound, the Yielima State Forest Pound, and the Yielima State Forest Common. The volume was used for this purpose from 1912-1921.Unit 3 is a register of grazing licences. It includes the name of the licensee, the licence number, the district and the amount of hectares for which the licence is valid.
