Breeding Seabird Surveys at The Nature Conservancy Dangermond Preserve 2024

Breeding seabird surveys were conducted by Point Blue Conservation Science at Dangermond Preserve during spring and summer 2024. These surveys are observations of seabird nests from the cliff tops, and attempt to account for all seabird nests at Dangermond Preserve. The area surveyed includes Point Conception and Government Point. One observer would walk along the cliff tops, looking at the cliff faces using binoculars and spotting scope from any suitable vantage point. Documentation of nesting behavior includes species, nest condition, adult behavior, number of eggs, chicks, chick feathering status, and fledglings, if visible. Surveys were attempted once per week from May through the beginning of August 2024. Species monitored include Brandt's cormorant (Urile penicillatus), pelagic cormorant (Urile pelagicus), western gull (Larus occidentalis), and black oystercatcher (Haematopus bachmani).
