Images from an Archaeological Watching Brief at Liverpool Football Club Training Ground, March 2018

This collection comprises images from an archaeological watching brief at Liverpool Football Club Training Ground which took place in March 2018. Oxford Archaeology North was commissioned on behalf of Liverpool Football Club, to undertake a programme of archaeological works in advance of the expansion to Liverpool FC's Training Academy at Simonswood Playing Field, Kirkby, Knowsley, Merseyside. Two post-medieval farmsteads were located within the proposed development boundary; Pilkington's Farm and Moss Lane Farm. The farms appear on the earliest mapping dated 1769 and could conceivably be of late seventeenth-century origin, although the investigation was unable to find any artefactual dating evidence to confirm that premise.
