Shotgun metagenomics reveal that anticancer drugs drive variations in the functional microbiome and resistome of a sequential-flow aerobic granular sludge system

In this study, we investigated the combined effects of three widely detected cytotoxic pharmaceuticals (cyclophosphamide (CP), methotrexate (MTX), and tamoxifen (TMX)) on the diversity and community composition, functional microbiome, and resistome of an aerobic granular sludge (AGS) system operated in sequential batch reactor (SBR) mode. A 90-day experiment was conducted and a treatment without drugs was used as a control.
